Yenbuba Village

The Soul Scuba Divers team is proud to be a part of the Yenbuba community. Yenbuba Village is located on Mansuar Island, just a few minutes away by boat from Kri. Most of the families who own and run the homestays on Kri are from Yenbuba.

As a part of this community, Soul Scuba Divers are engaged in some exciting education and conservation projects.

Coral Restoration with THe sea people

At Soul Scuba Divers, we're deeply committed to the preservation and rejuvenation of our oceans. Partnering with SEApeople - Orang Laut, we're actively involved in the restoration of coral reefs in the stunning region of Raja Ampat.

The SEA People, known locally as Orang Laut Papua, is a field-based non-profit organization working to protect and restore the marine ecosystem of Raja Ampat - creating solutions that benefit both the local community and the ocean on which it depends. The SEA People works hand-in-hand with community members, providing them with the skills and knowledge to manage and protect the local marine environment on their own. Currently, the organization is working on several key projects - Orang Laut Raja Ampat Megafauna and Marine Park Monitoring, Crown of Thorns Starfish Management Response, and Yaf Keru Reef Restoration.

The SEA People, in collaboration with Soul Scuba, offers divers the opportunity to participate in reef restoration activities. Divers can tour existing restoration sites, learn more about the state of Raja Ampat's coral reefs and understand why reef restoration is so important, before getting "hands on" with transplanting corals alongside local community members.

If you’re interested in becoming a coral gardener on your next trip to Raja Ampat, drop us a message! For more information, you can check out our dive pricing.

waste management project in kri island, raja ampat

With new flight routes and rising popularity, an increasing number of tourists in Raja Ampat means an increase in waste. Soul Scuba Divers has been reactivating waste management in Kri Island to get ahead of the issue.

We are recycling different plastic, metal, glass, as well as organic waste that's used in our community garden. To separate the different waste that accumulates on the island, we use old oil drums.

Education about this issue on the island is very important, both for the locals and our visitors. We are active in beach clean-ups, which take place at surface intervals between the morning dives. This small action has motivated local communities to keep the island waste-free. Of course, it takes time. The main focus is to teach people to reduce the plastic income on the island by encouraging smarter ways of shopping, using cardboard boxes and reusable shopping bags instead of single use plastic.

Going forwards, we plan to buy land and open a recycling center in Waisai, where we can organize and reuse all the different waste that we collect! At this point, there is only landfield in Waisai which gets burned.

How do we collect money for the waste program ?

You can be a vital part of creating a cleaner and more sustainable Raja Ampat by making a donation on our GoFundMe crowdfunding page. Every contribution, regardless of its size, plays a crucial role in making a positive impact on our environment. Join us in this collective effort for a greener and healthier Raja Ampat. Your support makes a world of difference!

WATER FILTERs FOR RAJA AMPAT

At Soul Scuba Divers, we're proud to collaborate with Support A Local,

an impactful NGO dedicated to improving the livelihoods of communities in Indonesia. Our latest initiative focuses on providing essential water filters to local villages in need.

Why water filters?

Clean water is a fundamental necessity often taken for granted. Unfortunately, many villages in Indonesia lack access to safe and clean drinking water. With your support, we aim to change that. These water filters offer a simple yet powerful solution, ensuring communities have access to safe and potable water, reducing waterborne diseases, and fostering healthier lives.

How Can You Help?

Your generous donations make this initiative possible. By contributing to Support A Local's Water Filter Initiative, you directly impact the lives of those in need. Every donation, no matter the size, brings us closer to our goal of providing clean water to these communities.

You impact matters

Imagine the joy of a community finally gaining access to clean water. Your support empowers us to make a tangible difference. Together, we can create a ripple effect of positive change, one water filter at a time.

Your contribution matters. Join us in supporting this vital cause. Together, let's provide clean water to those who need it most.
